シンガポール人デザイナー、アルヴィン・ホー（Alvin Ho）とクララ・コウ（Clara Koh）によって2002年に設立されたリサーチスタジオ、Atelier HOKO（アトリエ ホコ）による雑誌『Science of the Secondary（取るに足らない科学）』の第6巻。テーマは「パイプ（PIPE）」

「我々が実際パイプに気づくのはどんな時だろう？詰まっていたり、漏れていたり、汚れていたり、今にも破裂しそうな時だろうか？近くに溶け込むような壁や柱がなく、パイプがぽつんと立っているときだろうか？我々がパイプに気づくのは、パイプが破損したときだけである（何かが漏れ出すかもしれないことを恐れているため）。そして、急いでパイプを取り替え、修理し、欠陥を取り除き、またパイプは見えない領域に戻っていく...」

本書は、作者が構想し発展させ続けている進行中のリサーチシリーズである。

“When do we actually notice a pipe? When it is clogged, leaking, contaminated and about to burst? When it is standing alone, without a nearby wall or pillar to blend into? We only notice pipes when they are broken (because we are afraid of what might leak out) and hastily replace, repair or remove the defect before returning the pipes back into the realm of invisibility…”

‘Science of the Secondary: Pipe’ is the sixth edition in the series of ongoing research conceived and developed by Atelier HOKO.
