作者は、悲しみのためではなく、観察するために項垂れて歩く。そこでは、かつて噛んで捨てられたガムの地層、岩山のように積み重なっているタバコの吸い殻、コーヒーか小便か何かわからない液体の川など、とある街のありふれた地形を記録している。本書は、作者の絵画作品をアメリカ人作家タン・リン（Tan Lin）による詩集『アンビエントポエトリー』とともに紹介。
