ルーマニア人アーティスト、ヴィクター・マン（Victor Man）の作品集。2022年9月から10月にかけてパリの「ギャラリー・マックス・ヘッツラー（Galerie Max Hetzler）」にて開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

作者による最新の絵画作品や紙作品に加え、オーストリア人詩人であるゲオルク・トラークル（Georg Trakl）の詩「A Golden Chalice」の抜粋も収録、豪華に彩られ仕上げられた一冊。

古く熟練されたスタイルを用いながらも現代的な手法で描かれた作者の作品には、謎や記憶、隠喩、矛盾が満ち満ちているが、その主題は明白な解釈を拒む。作者は過去と現在、虚構と現実の間に引かれた境界線をぼやけさせる。作者に描かれたものたちは歴史そのものを肯定はしているが、しかし、どのような時代にも属さず、解明をも許さないものたちなのである。

This richly illustrated catalogue features recent paintings and works on paper by the artist, as well as an extract from Austrian Poet, Georg Trakl’s ‘A Golden Chalice’ 1906.

The Romanian artist’s paintings, handled in an old-masterly style yet in a contemporary manner, are ripe with mystery, memories, metaphors, and contradictions, their content, however, defies clear interpretation. Man blurs the lines between past and present, fiction and reality; his figures nod to history yet they are removed from any epoch and repel resolve.
