芸術家が「手」をテーマとして手がけた作品にまつわる作品集。アーティストの多くは、そのキャリアのどこかで創造の普遍的なシンボルである「手」を主題とした作品を作っている。繰り返し登場するモチーフに手を選ぶアーティストも多い。フランスの出版社「CHOSE COMMUNE」の創設者・編集者であるセシル・ポワンブフ・コイズミ（Cécile Poimboeuf-Koizumi）はこの気づきに触発され、テーマや時系列に囚われずに自分が心惹かれた作品を集めて1冊の本を作り上げた。作品のセレクションは、オンラインアート・キュレーターであり、ライター、編集者のスティーブン・エルコック（Stephen Ellcock）とのコラボレーションによって行われた。ここ数年エルコックは、Instagram と Facebook で毎日素晴らしいイメージを紹介し続け、実際にアートギャラリーを訪れている気分にさせてくれるとして多くのフォロワーを集めている。パブロ・ピカソ（Pablo Picasso）からエレナ・アルメイダ（Helena Almeida）、ルイーズ・ブルジョワ（Louise Bourgeois）からアルベルト・ジャコメッティ（Alberto Giacometti）、ジョン・バルデッサリ（John Baldessari）からフランチェスカ・ウッドマン（Francesca Woodman）まで、そして古代から大衆的なイメージ資料まで、宝の山のようなこの本は、有名無名、新人巨匠を問わず、幅広い分野で活躍するアーティストを対比し混在させている。直感的に編纂された本書に収められているイメージの数は100点を超える。

Most artists have, at some point, represented the universal symbol of creation which is the hand. Many of them have also chosen the hand as a recurring pattern in their work. This observation inspired Cécile Poimboeuf-Koizumi — editor and founder of Chose Commune — to gather the works that caught her attention in a book, following no thematic or chronological order. The selection was made in collaboration with StephenEllcock, who has made a name for himself over the past few years for bringing the art gallery directly to people with his glorious collection of images which he shares everyday on Instagram and Facebook. From Pablo Picasso to Helena Almeida, from Louise Bourgeois to Alberto Giacometti, from John Baldessari to Francesca Woodman, and comprising a multitude of treasures from the ancient ages to documents from popular imagery, Jeux de mains confronts and mixes famous, emerging and anonymous artists from a wide-range of practices. The result is a collection of more than a hundred images compiled intuitively in this book.
