1950年代から1960年代、北米や西欧、日本などで展開された表現形式「ハプニング（起こっている / Happening）」に焦点を当てた作品集。2012年2月から3月にかけてニューヨークの「ペース・ギャラリー（PACE GALLERY）」で開催した展覧会に伴い刊行された。レッド・グルームス（Red Grooms）、アラン・カプロー（Allan Kaprow）、ロバート・ホイットマン（Robert Whitman）、ジム・ダイン（Jim Dine）、クレス・オルデンバーグ（Claes Oldenburg）、シモーヌ・フォルティ（Simone Forti）、キャロリー・シュニーマン（Carolee Schneemann）らが生み出した、ジャンルの垣根を超えて混ざり合い、時間をベースとした作品群を紹介し、広く影響をもたらした「ハプニング」が展開した初期の活動を包括的に紹介する。
