1960年代から今日までの間に、テキスタイルの持つ変革的な可能性を追求してきたアーティストたちに光を当てる作品集。2024年2月から5月までイギリス・ロンドンの「バービカン・アート・ギャラリー（Barbican Art Gallery）」、2024年9月から2025年1月にかけてオランダの「アムステルダム市立美術館（Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam）」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。「テキスタイル」という表現がアーティストにとって、いかにして、そしてなぜ、権力の体制や価値を築く階層に疑問を投げかけるための創造力に富む媒体となってきたのかを探る。

国際的に活躍する多様なアーティスト陣が生んだ100点以上の作品を収録。テキスタイル・アートがいかに美しく、そしていかに不穏さを孕むものにもなりうるか、そして古来より使い続けられてきた素材や製法がいかに境界を打ち砕くような革新性をもって改めて用いられているかを探る。

親しみやすい手仕事の作品から、大型の彫刻的インスタレーション作品まで、本書はパシタ・アバド（Pacita Abad）、南米チリのキルトの一種「アルピジェラ（arpilleristas）」、ホセ・レオニウソン（José Leonilson）といったアーティストたちが遺した作品を称え、また、イグシャーン・アダムス（Igshaan Adams）、トレイシー・エミン（Tracey Emin）、セシリア・ビクーニャ（Cecilia Vicuña）、シェイラ・ヒックス（Sheila Hicks）のような今なお活躍するアーティスト陣や、より若い世代の作品にも目を向ける。
