映画の舞台となったニューヨーク市内5区を巡る、映画ファンのためのトラベルガイド。

往年の『フォーダーズ（Fodor's）』や『ミシュラン・ガイド（Michelin Guide）』を思わせる構成で、映画のロケ地として使われたレストラン、バー、ショップ、公園、美術館・博物館を紹介する。収録作品は『ファニー・ガール（原題：Funny Girl）』（1968年）から『メン・イン・ブラック（原題：Men in Black）』（1997年）まで幅広く、掲載されたスポットはいずれも現在も営業・公開されている。そのため、ミランダ・プリーストリー（Miranda Priestly）のようにステーキを味わったり、ニコール・キッドマン（Nicole Kidman）が演じた登場人物のようにレイヴへ出かけたりと、映画のワンシーンを追体験することができる。

序文は映画監督・脚本家のセリーヌ・ソン（Celine Song）が寄稿。『パスト ライブス／再会（原題：Past Lives）』（2023年）や『マテリアリスツ（原題：Materialists）』（2025年）で、ニューヨークという都市そのものをひとつの映画セットのように描いてきた視点から、本書に言葉を寄せている。

On Location in New York City is a travel guide to the city’s five boroughs as seen in the movies. Modeled after trusty old Fodor’s and Michelin guides, On Location maps out the restaurants, bars, shops, parks, and museums used as sets in films ranging from Funny Girl (1968) to Men in Black (1997). Every listed location is still open and operating today, meaning visitors can order a steak like Miranda Priestly or hit a rave like Nicole Kidman. Features an introduction by Celine Song, whose films Past Lives (2023) and Materialists (2025) treat New York like the movie set that it is.
